If you are moving into a new area and have children, learning more about the school district is a natural starting point. For those considering the Northern Bay Area, Novato, served by the Novato School District, is quickly becoming one of the most popular areas in Marin County. It features beautiful outdoor spaces yet is close enough to San Francisco so that all the amenities of the City can be enjoyed, and the school district is garnering glowing reviews.
The school district offers residents 8 separate elementary schools, one K-8, two middle schools and two high schools to choose from. Link to Novato Schools Boundary Maps pdf file. The schools are as follows:
- Elementary Schools: Hamilton, Loma Verde, Lu Sutton, Lynwood, Olive, Pleasant Valley, Rancho and San Ramon
- Middle Schools: San Jose and Sinaloa
- High Schools: Novato High and San Marin High
Students in this district receive a quality education from the educators who are employed here. In fact, the Educator of the Year award went to one of the high school teachers at San Marin High school. With only 11 awards being handed out during the year, receiving one of the coveted achievements is highly desired among the educators in the state.
The students in this school district are also recognized often for their achievements as well. Five students from San Marin High School were recently presented awards in the area of journalism. For these awards to be earned, students must compete with 400 others from schools all across Northern California.
The journalism department at San Marin High School is just one portion of the smARTt (San Marin Arts and Technical Arts) initiative that has been established to encourage the excitement of the students in this area of the arts.
Another organization that has been set up for students at San Marin HIgh who are interested in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math fields can benefit from the STEM program. This program offers students that ability to receive rigorous training and develop their knowledge of the project-based elements of these areas so that they are more than ready for a college education that is devoted to these areas of study.
Students who are attending Novato High can also take advantage of a number of items that relate to their interests in the arts. For example, by becoming students of the Marin School of the Arts, they are able to focus and develop their skills in areas, such as vocal music, visual arts, creative writing and dance. Film and video as well as instrumental music and musical theatre are also major areas that are focused on at this school.
Active involvement of parents is highly encouraged by this school district and there are a number of resources that parents can use to help their children achieve their dreams and ambitions. This, coupled with the fantastic school district that makes up the Novato area, will help those moving into the area feel at home and confident in the education that is being provided to their students.
